GlobalGiving supports
grassroots projects around the world. This project will disburse
funds to organizations providing relief and emergency services to
victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. GlobalGiving is
working with International Medical Corps, Save the Children, and
other organizations on the ground to provide relief to victims.
CARE is a leading
humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. We place special
focus on working alongside poor women because, equipped with the
proper resources, women have the power to help whole families and
entire communities escape poverty. Women are at the heart of CARE's
community-based efforts to improve basic education, prevent the
spread of HIV, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand
economic opportunity and protect natural resources. CARE also
delivers emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters,
and helps people rebuild their lives.
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans
Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian
organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.
Today, MSF provides aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose
survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe,
primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion
from health care, or natural disasters. MSF provides independent,
impartial assistance to those most in need. MSF reserves the right
to speak out to bring attention to neglected crises, to challenge
inadequacies or abuse of the aid system, and to advocate for
improved medical treatments and protocols.
On any one day, more than 27,000 committed
individuals representing dozens of nationalities can be found
providing assistance to people caught in crises around the world.
They are doctors, nurses, logistics experts, administrators,
epidemiologists, laboratory technicians, mental health
professionals, and others who work together in accordance with MSF's
guiding principles of humanitarian action and medical ethics.
Food For The Poor ministers to
spiritually renew impoverished people throughout Latin America and
the Caribbean. Established in 1982 as a 501(c)(3) corporation, our
goals are to improve the health, economic, social and spiritual
conditions of the men, women and children we serve. Food For The
Poor raises funds and provides direct relief assistance to the poor,
usually by purchasing specifically requested materials and
distributing them through the churches and charity organizations
already operating in areas of need.
For 30 years, in the midst of economic

United We Serve is a nationwide service
initiative that helps meet growing social needs resulting from the
economic downturn. With the knowledge that ordinary people can
achieve extraordinary things when given the proper tools,
President Obama is asking
us to come together to help lay a new foundation for growth.
This initiative aims to both expand the impact of existing
organizations by engaging new volunteers in their work and encourage
volunteers to develop their own "do-it-yourself" projects.
Serve.gov

Art & Creativity for Healing, Inc.
was formally incorporated as a tax-exempt, 501(c) (3) nonprofit
agency in November of 2000. Located in Laguna Niguel, California,
this innovative organization offers unique classes and workshops
that help children, teens and adults suffering from abuse, illness,
grief or stress process their feelings using the venue of painting
on canvas. It is only through the generosity of foundations,
corporate and private donors that Art & Creativity for Healing
continues to grow and flourish in its service to the community.
DonorsChoose.org grew out of a Bronx
high school where teachers experienced first-hand the scarcity of
learning materials in our public schools.
Charles Best, then a social studies
teacher, sensed that many people would like to help distressed
public schools, but were frustrated by a lack of influence over
their donations. He created DonorsChoose.org in 2000 so that
individuals could connect directly with classrooms in need.
Our mission is to improve public education by empowering every
teacher to be a change-maker and enabling any citizen to be a
philanthropist.
Our vision is a nation where students in
every community have the resources they need to learn
The Soup Kitchen in Boynton Beach,
Florida is a remarkable example of what sincere dedication can
create when coupled with the generous service of a small number of
compassionate people. In 1983, a small group of caring women were
determined to make a difference in the lives of some of the county's
most unfortunate people. They started with a donated van and a
belief in their vision. The van was used to provide soup and
sandwiches for hungry families.
The distribution of dry goods and staple
food items began three days a week in June 1984 and by October 1984
met all of the requirements of the Palm Beach County Health
Department for serving hot/cooked food. Since 1984 hundreds of
thousands of individuals in need have signed in for a hot meal and
over 1,300,000 bags of food have been given out.
The Soup Kitchen does not now nor has it
ever received any federal or local government funding. All funding
and support comes from loyal people like you, caring and concerned
individuals who provide generous donations of their money, time, and
talent.
